BETWEEN THE SHEETS
Poetry chap book of about 40 selected poems
by Charles Schwartz
I write continually and dream of getting better at reaching into what seems like a bottomless pit of things that I have to say.
Yet, I know that there can only be a few good poems of worth in my entire collection. That’s ok, since the poems that don’t make the grade actually have some value as they are honing my skills without harming my sensibilities.

Is there a way to move into old age with pride? Will I gain pride and more poetry skill than when I started? (Sophocles wrote poetry until he was one hundred and one and drank wine and danced all night). I believe the trick for me is to stay young by writing with a poetic heart, as I wrote this:

PARTNERS
I have two hearts.
one for love
and one for poetry.
they sing duets
with thunder, passion
and kindness.
my love always understands
and gives comfort,
while writing poetry excites my soul.

ANIMAL INVASION
(see a bee polinating)

IF something smells fishy,
and there is a frog in one’s throat,
making one's bark worse than his bite,
can we call it, “the cat’s meow?”

IF they fight like cats and dogs,
will that make it rain cats and dogs,

IF getting their ducks in a row

will that make their tails wag a dog

IF they then get a bird’s-eye view,
and rest, as bugs snug in a rug,
could a wizard then answer:
Is there truth in fables?
